Munich (pts009/16.06.2008/08:30) - Today the world's largest trade show for solar technology, Intersolar 2008, is opening its gates for the ninth time. At the new Munich location, the trade show once again achieved strong growth and an expansion of exhibition area by more than 120%. Around 1,050 exhibitors from 40 nations will be presenting innovations of the international solar industry on 76,000sqm. This is a 65% rise over last year in the number of exhibitors at the industry meeting point for solar thermal technology, photovoltaics and solar architecture.

The trade show's move to Munich has helped achieve a new level of internationalization amongst exhibitors. One of the main reasons for this is the excellent infrastructure and attractiveness of Munich, according to Markus Elässer, Managing Director of Solar Promotion GmbH, one of the organizers of Intersolar. Spain, Austria, France and China make up a large part of the almost 50% international exhibitors. This once again underlines the trade show's reputation as the pivot of the international solar industry.

The massive growth of Intersolar in Munich is largely due to the increase in the number of international exhibitors. Many of the world's up-and-coming markets for solar technology help the industry's growth - a fact that Intersolar has responded to by opening up a number of international representations. The trade show's profile has also been refined. "We have developed a thematic approach bringing exhibition areas, halls and thematic islands closer together to help visitors find their way around better", Markus Elsässer explains the service-focused exhibition concept.

"Following the growth the trade show experienced in Freiburg over the past few years, the move has been the right decision. The increase in the number of international exhibitors alone confirms that is was the right decision. We are happy to have the opportunity to help shape the future development of Intersolar at the new location", says Klaus W. Seilnacht, Managing Director of Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe GmbH & Co. KG and Intersolar's co-organizer.

Two trade shows under one roof: Intersolar and AUTOMATICA
The first few days of Intersolar 2008 are exclusively reserved for trade visitors. On June 12 and 13 from 9a.m. to 6p.m. they can inform themselves about the latest industry developments and products. On the third and last day, Intersolar will be open to the general public from 9a.m. to 5p.m. In seven exhibition halls and the open air grounds, manufacturers and service providers will be presenting their solutions for solar power, solar heat and solar architecture in a comprehensive product and industry show.

Intersolar 2008 visitors may also visit AUTOMATICA 2008, which is taking place simultaneously, free of charge. The industry trade show for automation and robotics will be showing an international range of products from the key areas of assembly and handling technology as well as robotics from June 10 to 13, also addressing the issue of automation in the manufacture of solar technical products: more than 40 exhibitors at Automatica will be presenting solar engineering products and services.

Intersolar 2008 conference and accompanying program
Before the start of the trade show, the PV Industry Forum and the new Solar Thermal Industry Forum opened Intersolar 2008's attractive conference and accompanying program. Additional conferences such as "Solar Gigawatts for North America" and "Solar Materials, Equipment & Technology Conference SMET" as well as workshops and seminars round off the program.

The accompanying events provide exhibitors and visitors with the latest information, practical know-how and a unique platform for mutual exchange. Meetings, seminars and workshops during the world's leading trade show for solar technology attract 1,500 international visitors between June 10 and 14.

This year, the accompanying program includes the possibility to visit the world's largest PV roof-top installation on top of Messe München's halls B, and the Intersolar Job & Career Forum. The cooperation with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung has allowed Intersolar to expand the career services introduced last year. In addition to the job platform bringing together qualified job seekers with potential employers, the forum offers individual careers advice at the booths of potential employers.

Innovation Exchange and Intersolar AWARD
Outstanding industry innovations have been given an additional platform, the Intersolar Innovation Exchange. Exhibitors have the opportunity to present their product and service innovations for solar thermal and photovoltaics to a wide expert audience in 15-minute talks. This year, the organizers will be presenting the first Intersolar AWARD to praise the industry's innovative power, in co-operation with the German Solar Industry Association (BSW-Solar). The Intersolar AWARD will be presented at the Innovation Exchange, at 3p.m. on June 12, in hall B 5. The AWARD will honor future-oriented technologies and ideas combining profitability with practicability.

Intersolar North America
The North American solar industry has also been growing fast for many years. To offer the industry a local platform for exchange and networking, the first Intersolar North America 2008 will be held from July 15 to 17 in San Francisco. The trade show will be focusing on photovoltaics, solar thermal technology and solar architecture. It will be organized in co-operation with SEMI, the International Semiconductor and Microelectronics Association, which will host SEMICON West, a trade show for the related semiconductor and nanoelectronics industry, simultaneously with Intersolar North America. Together with SEMICON West, the trade show will be occupying an exhibition area of more than 60.000sqm in San Francisco's Moscone Center. The organizers are expecting 200 international exhibitors from the solar industry, and 1.400 exhibitors in total.

More than 10,000 experts are expected to attend Intersolar North America alone. A conference with a varied accompanying program such as seminars and workshops will round off the trade show.

Supporters of Intersolar 2008
Supporters of Intersolar 2008 are the leading associations in the solar industry. German Solar Industry Association (BSW) as Intersolar's exclusive partner, German Solar Energy Society (DGS), the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA), the European Solar Thermal Industry Federation (ESTIF) and the International Solar Energy Society (ISES).
