Telenor posts revenue rise of 14.9 per cent for 2004
Fourth quarter net income losses due to Danish and Swedish operations

Fornebu (pte023/16.02.2005/11:00) - Norwegian telecoms giant Telenor http://www.telenor.no has posted a 14.9 year-on-year rise in revenue for 2004 to 60.8 billion Norwegian Kroner (7.3 billion euros). Net income for 2004 increased by 14.6 per cent to 5.2 billion Norwegian Kroner (621.8 million euros). "We have seen a record-high customer growth in several markets, which provides us with a good vantage point for future profit development," said Jon Fredrik Baksaas, president and CEO of Telenor.

The Norwegian company posted a 14.2 per cent year-on-year rise in revenue for the fourth quarter of 2004. As the company reports in a press release on its website, its fourth-quarter revenue in 2004 increased to15.6 billion Norwegian Kroner (1.86 billion euros). However, net income was -382 million Norwegian Kroner (-45.7 million euros), a decrease of 1.4 billion Norwegian Kroner (163.9 million euros) compared to the fourth quarter of 2003. Telenor's number of mobile subscriptions in consolidated operations increased by 2.4 million in the fourth quarter of 2004 to 19 million. The number of subscriptions where Telenor has ownership interests rose by 7.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2004 to 52.7 million. In Norway, Telenor has 2.65 million mobile subscriptions, a growth of 281,000 during 2004. At year-end 2004, the Norwegian company's estimated market share for mobile services in Norway was maintained at 56 per cent, measured by the number of subscriptions. Internationally, the growth in subscriptions was especially high, particularly in Kyivstar in the Ukraine and GrameenPhone in Bangladesh, where the subscription figures more than doubled.

Total revenues from Telenor's mobile operations increased by 38.4 per cent in 2004 to around 33 million Norweigan Kroner (3.9 million euros). The company's operating profit was around 3 million Norwegian Kroner (358,700 euros) in 2004, compared to 5.2 million Norwegian Kroner (621,800) from the previous year. The company also saw increases in its number of fixed-line customers - at year-end 2004 the company had 326,000 ADSL subscribers in Norway, an increase of 149,000 from 2003. The total revenues from the fixed area were 19.2 million Norwegian Kroner (2.3 million euros) in 2004, compared to 20.5 million (2.5 million euros) in 2003. Operating profit for the company's fixed-line division in 2004 increased by 10.4 per cent to 2.8 million Norwegian Kroner (334,800 euros).
