Seefeld-Kadolz (pts002/15.03.2004/08:00) - 8 May, opening of the exhibition at the Kulturzentrum Esel-Muehle. The work of 500 black/white photographs and multilingual text elements was shown as from 1995 in 6 countries and 9 museums. After China in 2000, this internationally sucessful exhibition is now presented for the first time in Austria.

Eva Choung-Fux travels in 1994 through Poland, the Netherlands, Slovakia and Austria. She looks for and meets with 241 women and men willing to talk to the artist and speak about what they had witnessed in the Holocaust. On the same route she interested 241 adolescents and children for her project. She speaks, explains, asks, listens, notes down and catches an intens moment of the encounter with her camera. The artist arranges the photographs in a chronological order. Every portrait of a witness, she juxtaposes with the portrait of a 50 years younger person. In the times jump of 50 years, dialogs arise among the people who, by their free will, stepped forward from their private anonymity. The impressiveness of the black&white photographs (author's enlarging) size 55 x 50 cm, with integrated personal data and statements is enhanced by the multilingual soundtrack installation. Drawn to share knowledge of experienced suffering, the eyes of the beholder and the depicted meet in clear and intense moments.

The exhibition Survivors on Life 1945 1995 makes it evident: the artist as catalyst, as lens, bundled the entrusted facts and knew to project them. Through this tranformation Eva Choung-Fux created a context without the need of an index finger.
"... the camera is her instrument, it is accurate, fast, verifying seconds or fractions thereof. Words are added, painstackingly phrased, discussed, elaborated in time. The time-snatch is confronted with the time-stretch ..." (Dieter Ronte, Bonn)
