Viacom wants Vivendi's cable networks
Informal offer two days after bidding deadline

New York (pte025/27.06.2003/17:19) - Viacom has placed an offer for French media group Vivendi's US cable networks just two days after the official bidding deadline for Vivendi's US entertainment division, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Viacom has also reportedly expressed an interest in Vivendi's sci-fi channels and TV production. Analysts had anticipated this move on the part of Viacom, in spite of the fact that Vivendi wants to sell its entertainment division including its film studios in one piece. Viacom has waited until now to place its bid, as it has no interest whatsoever in the film studios.

Liberty Media still has the most viable bid, having said it would pay 14 billion dollars in cash for the Vivendi's entire entertainment division http://www.vivendi-universal.com with the exception of Universal Media Group.
