New mobile payment platform Simpay
MPSA joint venture becomes independent firm

London (pte032/23.06.2003/14:34) - The Mobile Payments Services Association (MPSA), a joint mobile payment venture created by T-Mobile, Vodafone, Orange and Telefonica Moviles, will soon be operating as an independent technical platform for m-commerce applications under the name Simpay http://www.simpay.com/press.php .

Simpay's target is the end user market, for which it intends to develop and provide an open framework for mobile payment options. The idea is that smaller transactions of little value such as a music downloads or games will be carried out over the user's phone bill, while larger transactions will still involve credit card companies.

In addition to the four founding members of the platform, other mobile giants such as Hutchison, KPN and O2 Interesse have expressed an interest in cooperation.

Tim Jones, CEO of Simpay, says the introduction of the new company and brand name is an important step toward establishment on the market for mobile payment solutions. He says he intends to make Simpay an omnipresent option for music, book and travel pages, or even for the simple purchase of a bus ticket. The strength of Simpay services, according to Jones, will be their customer-friendliness.
