PC turnover to drop in 2003
Analysts revise prognosis for rest of year

Framingham (pte028/10.06.2003/14:11) - World PC turnover is expected to drop by 2.4 per cent to 169bn dollars in 2003.

According to market researchers IDC http://www.idc.com , the drop is due to a decrease in sales prices - not in sales, which are expected to grow by 6.3 per cent to over 145 million pieces. Turnover is, however, expected to increase next year.

Due to the limited recovery of the economy and the outbreak of SARS, IDC says it has been forced to revise its original prognosis. "The demand for PCs remains limited in spite of some improvements compared to last year," said IDC analyst Loren Loverde. "We have observed a small degree of recovery in deliveries to companies, while consumer demand has gone down in the last quarters and deliveries to the public sector have been recessive," said Loverde.

Loverde further stated that, while increased consumer confidence and a need to replace old devices will lead to growth in the second half of the year, the market cannot expect a double digit growth rate until 2004.
