EDS takes over Barclays IT administration
Biggest outsourcing deal in British bank sector

London/ Plano (pte034/05.06.2003/14:12) - IT services provider EDS is taking over the desktop management of traditional British bank Barclays. Under a new outsourcing agreement, EDS will manage the group's 41,700 PC work stations for the next seven years. The deal is estimated to be worth 350m dollars http://www.eds.com/news/news_release_template.shtml?rowid=3354 .

The agreement between EDS and Barclays is the biggest outsourcing deal in Britain's banking sector to date. Barclays hopes the move will help reduce its IT costs. At the same time, EDS will provide the group with a uniform IT environment. It is not yet clear how many of Barclays' IT employees will be going to EDS.

By its own estimate, EDS manages up to 3.3 million PC stations for its clients around the world. Business in the finance sector made up 14 per cent of the company's total turnover last year.
