Vodafone cuts net losses
CEO Gent receives credit for positive results

London (pte036/27.05.2003/15:15) - British mobile communications giant Vodafone http://www.vodafone.com posted a surprisingly positive annual result today, Tuesday.

The group was able to reduce net losses from 16.2bn pounds (22.4bn euros) to 9.8bn pounds (13.5bn euros). Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (ebitda) increased by 26 per cent to 12.7bn pounds (17.5bn euros). Turnover leapt to 30.4bn pounds (42bn euros).

"We have once again delivered excellent results," said Vodafone chairman Lord MacLaurin. He called the result the legacy of parting CEO Christopher Gent, who made Vodafone a "leading mobile communications company" in the past seix and a half years.

Vodafone CEO Gent, who will be leaving the company by his own choice on 30 July, has pointed toward the improved operating result (30 per cent increase to 9.2bn pounds) as a sign that the company is on the right track.

Vodafone shareholders can now enjoy a profit per share of 6.81 pence with a dividend of 0.9 pence - an increase of 15 per cent compared to the year before.
