Slovenia far from liberalised market?
Mobile operator Vega takes legal action

Ljubljana (pte048/22.05.2003/17:23) - Slovenian mobile operator Vega http://www.vega070.com has again accused ex-monopolist Mobitel http://www.mobitel.si of abusing its power on the market. Vega, which is a subsidiary of the Austrian operator tele.ring http://www.telering.at has submitted an official complaint to the telecommunication regulation authorities.

Austrian telecommunications group mobilkom austria http://www.mobilkomaustria.com also considers the Slovenian market "monopolised". Elisabeth Mattas, speaker for the mobilkom Austria group recently told pressetext.Europe: "Slovenia is miles away from being a liberalised market."

"We basically support Vega's view. Mobitel has a dominant market position and uses this illegally," said Mattes. "It is not clear whether we will also take legal measures. We are still discussing this option."

Vega has accused Mobitel of various illegal activities, pointing out the extreme price difference between internal network calls and calls to other networks. "There is no economic reason for these differences," said Vega-CEO Julien Coustaury.

Similar practices have been forbidden by regulators in other EU states. mobilkom austria has also demanded that the Slovenian regulator intervene.
