Geneva/ Bern (pte037/05.05.2003/14:12) - Swisscom Eurospot http://www.swisscom-eurospot.com , Swisscom's WLAN subsidiary, has entered a strategic partnership with French mobile operator SFR http://www.sfr.com/de/index.jsp .
In the new arrangement, starting in June 2003 clients of SFR will be able to use Swisscom Eurospot's European network of WLAN hotspots to access the web. The Swiss company currently runs over 900 hotspots in western Europe, of which 15 are located in France.
A year ago Swisscom Mobile began setting up a wireless access network in Switzerland. At the same time, Swisscom Eurospot concentrated on the rest of Europe, setting up hotspots in hotels, train stations and airports.
"This agreement with the most important private French mobile operator shows that Swisscom Eurospot wants to work together with market leaders to provide as many people as possible with wireless broadband Internet access as quickly as possible," said Frederic Gastaldo, CEO of Swisscom Eurospot.
"Thanks to the agreement with Swisscom Eurospot, as of June our clients will be the first in France to have broadband Internet access at 900 locations in France and abroad in addition to our GPRS services," said Jean-Dominique Pit, SFR strategy director.
