Hush-money for own wife

Bucharest (pte007/01.02.2003/15:45) - A woman paid 300 pounds a month by her husband not to talk to him when he comes home is demanding twice as much if she agrees to have a baby. Thirty-four-year-old businessman Nicolae Popa, from Alba-Iulia in northeastern Romania, has been told by wife Maria that he will have to cough up more cash if he wants their year-long arrangement to carry on after she gets pregnant.

She said: "I told him that he will need to double the amount when we have our first baby, assuming he doesn't want the baby to nag him." Popa said he began paying his wife to keep quiet after finding he could no longer cope with talking to anyone when he got home from a long day at work.

He told the daily 'Libertatea': "My work involves me talking on the phone for more than five hours a day. I am so tired when I get back home that all I want is silence. "My wife talked so much when I came home that she was giving me headaches. I can understand - she is a computer programmer and she doesn't talk to anyone while at work. But she used to get her revenge on me." http://www.libertatea.ro/
