Vienna (pte027/30.04.2013/12:19) - The boat tours on the Danube opened for the 2013 season on Navigation Day. The companies who operate on the Vienna to Wachau line DDSG Blue Danube and Brandner said they were expecting to at least equal last year's activity.
DDSG Blue Danube and Brandner welcome 250,000 to 300,000 passengers on board every year.
The firm Brandner specialises in passenger boat transport and also manages 40 landing stages for cruisers along the Danube between Linz (Upper-Austria) and Budapest (Hungary) - 144 ships have already registered for the spaces this year.
Brigit Brandner-Wallner of Brandner said: "The cruise-tourists are a very important economic factor." She has estimated the added value at about 40 million Euros for Lower-Austria alone.
