Modern Gallery opens at Klosterneuburg monastery
Vienna's Red Buses now bring tourists from the Albertinaplatz to the monastery

Klosterneuburg (pte014/19.04.2013/12:24) - Located just outside Vienna in Lower-Austria, the Klosterneuburg monastery has long been a favourite amongst locals and tourists from the Austrian capital and it surroundings and celebrates this year 900 years of art, culture and religion.

Now, Vienna's Red Bus city tour company brings culture-thirsty people directly from the Albertinaplatz to the monastery's front door in just 45 minutes. The company offers four buses daily with city tour in over 20 languages and a combined ticket which includes entry to the monastery and access to all tour at the monastery on the day of purchase.

The monastery, famously the oldest winery in Austria, is celebrating its 900th jubilee this year with a new addition to its museum - the modern gallery. With a large and impressive selection of collected pieces of art from the modern age ranging from Oskar Kokoschka and Markus Redl to Franz Elsner, the modern gallery truly completes the link between middle-aged and contemporary sacral art.

Other highlights of the monastery include the treasures room, where a huge collection of various pieces of interest such as the Austrian archduke headdress, the veil monstrance and a impressive assortment of ivory elements.

The world famous, gold-covered Verdun altar is one of the most important art pieces of the middle age and can also be contemplated at the Klosterneuburg monastery as part of the sacred tour.

The wine tour allows insight into the three storeys of Austria's oldest wine estate and lets connoisseurs and wine-enthusiasts sample the monastery's own produce in the wine shop.

There is something for everyone and every interest at the Klosterneuburg monastery and the long-celebrated attraction is the perfect opportunity for a day-trip just a short bus drive away from Vienna, in the Lower-Austrian country side.

The new Modern Gallery opens May, 1st and can be visited as part of the museum tour at the Stift Klosterneuburg, Stiftsplatz 1, 3400 Klosterneuburg.
