Styrian village in Vienna
The Styrian village opened on the city hall square yesterday, Thursday

Vienna (pte006/12.04.2013/09:37) - The Styrian village opened on the city hall square (Rathausplatz) yesterday (Thursday).

For the 17th time, the space in front of Vienna's city hall has been transformed into a miniature version of Styria for a four-day festival under the motto "the Styrian spring is tasty".

The Viennese restaurateur Haya Molcho and Styrian TV-chef Johann Lafer opened the village with a cookery show on stage uniting the two regions: Viennese Schnitzel and Styrian Backhendlsalat - a traditional mixed salad with fried chicken.

Several exhibitors are offering a culinary tour of Styria and its rich and varied local products.

The Styrian Apple Lounge is a new addition to this year's event and is an opportunity to taste various sorts of apples and find out more about the fruit.

Everyone is invited to take part in the "put your apple up in the air" record attempt on Saturday - organisers want participants to simultaneously throw 10,000 Styrian apples in the air.

Guests are invited to take part in cooking, cocktail-mixing or a herb workshop at the East Styrian Vierkanthof stall.

There will be several shows from traditional Austrian music and dance groups as well as plenty of activities for children - from Styrian glitter tattoos to climbing frames and obstacle runs.

There will be a nature park rally in which participants can find out more about the earth's most precious resource, water, and hear about the flora and fauna in Styria's nature parks. There is one Styria-bag to take away for all participants as well as a chance to win one nature-park holiday in Styria.
